Today was another day just like yesterday that consisted of note taking and video watching. We started off the video where we left off yesterday and talked a little bit more about sago and that some of my classmates wanted to try which I don't know why they would. Then we started to talk more about the animals that were domesticated workers over the weight of 100 pounds. These animals were goats, sheep, pigs, cows, horses, donkeys, Bactrian camels, Arabian camels, water buffalo, llamas, reindeer, yaks, mittens, and Bali cattle. Learning about animals appeals to me because it's interesting to find out about what they do and how they have changed from their time to our time. Then out of no where we had a imitation of Mr. Schick trying to be some kind of animal that doesn't get involved with humans and he went crazy kicking his desk and almost blowing out his computer which almost took away our ability to watch the video.

Today started off with a very scary pop quiz that I was not expecting because we had just started yesterday and all we did was watch a video and take notes. No one really had learned the material yet. And today all we did was watch the video that we watched yesterday and took more notes. I always have trouble watching these long videos because the just get too boring and when it's dark I have the temptation to doze off uncontrollably. We talked a lot about sago which is food that is grown from a tree in the swamp. The sago tree can produce up to 70 pounds of sago per tree, but it is low in protein and can not be stored for long.

Today was our introduction to western civ along with the introduction with two new classmates (one fo them wasn't here today). Apparently Mr. Schick had plans for today but apparently the class was a bit too rowdy and out fo control that he made us watch an hour long vide and take notes on it. This semester is going to be a lot lie last semester besides the fact that we're just simply learning a new subject, that's all. Hopefully I enjoy this class a lot more than human geo as it sounds more interesting to me. But the video today was not what I has in mind when the topic western civ comes to my head. I was thinking of like the wild west and like those times but instead it's more so native americans and Mesopotamia. The people back then tend to survive on a more strict diet and farming supply than we do today. They dress totally differently and live a lot more naturally. I am looking forward to learning more about our history and I hope that I take interest in it.

Today we started off by Sydney getting yelled at by Mr. Schick because she wouldn't sit down and then he called her back up to hand out our essays. I got my essay and received an 85 on it and I'm not that upset because I just wanted to get the essays done and most of the stuff I said on them were opinion based. We then got some time to review over our tests and see what comments Mr. Schick had to say about our essays and I noticed some grammar mistakes on mine along with some areas that could've used more facts to go along with some of my opinions.

Today was shortened by 5 minutes because it was a D day but class still felt the same. Today we basically talked about our classwork because Mr. Schick wasn't in school yesterday and this is when we wrote paragraphs on each on each of the 5 most populated religions. We also talked about what was gonna be on our religion test which is coming up. The problem is though we are supposed to get snow Thursday night into Friday which could get us a day off school but we don't have class Thursday and there's no way we are taking the test tomorrow. But I think he sorted something out with taking it next week if we have off Friday. But anyways today was basically review and I think I'm gonna do fairly well on this test knowing that I did a religions project last year on even more than these five religions.

Christianity is the biggest religion in the world with around 2.2 billion people following. The people that believe in Christianity are known as Christians. Most Christians live in Europe, the Americas, and Southern Africa. Their denominations are the Catholic Church, Eastern Orthodox Church, and Protestants (Lutherans, Methodists, Baptists, Anglicans, Presbyterians, Episcopalians, many more). The founder of Christianity is Jesus Christ and their Holy Book is known as the Bible. They believe that Jesus is both human and divine and the Son of God. He led a virtuous life; he was crucified, died, buried, and resurrected; He ascended into heaven where he reigns with God the Father. The Pope is the head of the Catholic Church and local authorities are known as priests.

The second most populated religion is Islam. There are around 1.5 billion people following this religion and most of them live in Indonesia, Middle East, and North Africa. We call the followers of this faith Muslims. Their main denominations are consisted of them being 75-90% Sunnis and 10-20% Shiites. Their founder is known as Muhammed and he lived from around 570-632. Their holy book is called the Qur'an which is also called Koran. The faith is a monotheistic faith and is also Abrahamic. They have five pillars of faith and these are called testimony, prayer, alms-giving, fasting and pilgrimage. Muslims see their purpose in life as serving and submitting to Allah (Muslim God), and observing Islamic law. They also have the Hajj which is the place where all the muslims go to. The Hajj is the Muslim pilgrimage to Mecca that takes place in the last month of the year, and that all Muslims are expected to make at least once during their lifetime. Hajj means heading to a place for the sake of visiting.
The fourth most populated religion is known as Hinduism. There are around 1.1 billion people following the Hindu faith and we call these followers Hindus. Most of them live in India but some also live in Nepal. Their Holy Book is called the Vedas and this book is about their eternal truths revealed to ancient sages which is composed in verse form. These verses are meant to be sung and easily memorized. Their is no distinct founder of the Hindu faith. Hinduism is a series of intellectual or philosophical points of view, rather than a rigid, strict set of beliefs. It is probably the oldest extant religion, although Hinduism is less a religion than a way of life, or a faith.
The fourth most populated religion is Buddhism. There are around somewhere between 500 million and 1.5 billion followers of this faith. We call these believers Buddhists. They mostly live in Southeast Asia, China, Nepal, and Japan. There also 1.2 million Buddhists living in the U.S. Their denominations are Tibetan, Zen, Theravada, and Amidist. The founder os Buddhism is Siddhartha Gautama. They have four noble truths and these are: 1. There is suffering 2. Attachment to desire is the origin of suffering 3. There is a cessation of suffering 4. The Eightfold Path will lead to the cessation of suffering. There is also an Eightfold Path and these eight things are Right view, Right intention, Right speech, Right action, Right livelihood, Right effort, Right mindfulness, Right dedication.
The fifth and final most populated religion is Judaism. There are between 14 and 18 millions of them in the world. We call them Jews. Most of them live in Israel but some live in the U.S. and others are scattered in European countries. The founder of Judaism is Abraham. Their Holy Book is knownas the Torah which is also the first five books of the Old Testament: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy. Their belief is an ethical monotheism which means God is one, and concerned with the actions of humankind. They also have the Ten Commandments which is also a part of the Christianity beliefs. There are also the 13 principles of faith. The Jews also celebrate Hanukkah which is a time around Christmas where they light a candle each day and give presents. The Judaism religion is very similar to the Christianity religion.

Today in human geo we started off by taking out our packets on religion but I didn't have one because I wasn't at school the day that we got those packets. But basically we skimmed through the packet space by page and highlighted all the important facts that we would need to know for the test. But halfway through this, someone brought up the fact of our exam grades for the multiple choice part of the exam. Mr. Schick didn't have the exams with him but he did have the grades put in online so he could call us out one at a time and tell us our grades. The lowest grade was a 78 but thankfully it wasn't me but I got an 82 which wasn't much better. We then just finished off the last 10 minutes of class by finishing off the packet. Pretty usual day of human geography.

Today classes were run on a community bell because we had an hour and ten minutes assembly on something about Native American culture and tradition. I'm glad this is so because it makes days go by way faster and classes to be more fun. Anyways in human geo today we looked back at our blogs from yesterday and discussed them and what answers we got. The first question was about Mecca and different writing styles, the second question was on indulgences and Martin Luther, and the third question was about the Hajj. I had no troubles with these questions and found them fairly easy to answer and it was good because he gave us all of the class period to finish the blogs yesterday in class so I didn't have to do it at home. That's pretty much all that happened in human geo today.

1. There are four basic Vedic texts in use by Hindus and these are called the Rig-Veda, the Sama-Veda, the Yajur-Veda, and the Atharva-Veda. The Rig-Veda is about “Knowledge of the Hymns of Praise”, for recitation. The Sama-Veda is about “Knowledge of the Melodies”, for chanting. The Yajur-Veda is about “Knowledge of the Sacrificial formulas”, for liturgy. And the Atharva Veda is about “Knowledge of the Magic formulas”, named after a kind of group of priests. The Rig-Veda has 1017 hymns, the Sama-Veda has 1549 hymns, the Yajur-Veda has 1875 hymns, and the Atharva-Veda has 730 hymns.
2. The practice of indulgences is used in the Catholic Church where someone would ask for an indulgence from the pope or religious leader to grant them less time in purgatory and a better chance for them to get to heaven. Martin Luther objected to indulgences because he felt that it was wrong to promise souls freedom from purgatory based on a simple monetary contribution, and he also felt that the pope did not have the right to grant a pardon from God. My research led me mainly to Wikipedia and the answers that automatically come up at the top of google when you ask it a question.
3. The Hajj is the Muslim pilgrimage to Mecca that takes place in the last month of the year, and that all Muslims are expected to make at least once during their lifetime. Hajj means heading to a place for the sake of visiting. The rites of Hajj, which according to Islam go back to the time of Prophet Abraham who re-built Kaaba after it had been first built by Prophet Adam, are performed over five or six days, beginning on the eighth and ending on the thirteenth day of Dhu al-Hijjah, the last month of the Islamic calendar. The state of being physically and financially capable of performing the Hajj is called istita'ah, and a Muslim who fulfils this condition is called a mustati
. The Hajj is a demonstration of the solidarity of the Muslim people, and their submission to God (Allah).
