Today we spent almost 40 minutes focusing on an Ancient Egyptian Powerpoint that had around 6 slides but was packed with information. The main topics that we learned about were these: The Nile and the "Two Lands", Gods, Humans, and Everlasting Life, The writing of the Words of God, Calendars and Sailboats, and the last topic was Pyramids and Temples. The one topic that interested me this class was the pyramids and temples because it is really cool to think about the fact that even 5,000 years ago, people were building massive, sturdy buildings that can somewhat compare to today. I also enjoy learning about the mummification process because how did they know that the mummification would've worked so well.

Today we used all 55 of our minutes going over a single worksheet which sounds boring but it really wasn't that bad. He gave us around thirty minutes to do it and the rest of the class we used to go over it and discuss plans for the ancient Egyptians quiz. The vocabulary questions on the front of the worksheet were easy but time consuming. I found most of the definition of the words in the glossary but there were a couple that were not in the book that I had to look up. I tried to do the back but I could only do the last couple of questions because I could not find the answers in the book or online. These 55 minutes actually flew by while I also learned some things about ancient Egypt that I never had before. Back in sixth grade we did a huge project on ancient Egypt and it helped me a lot. But what we're learning about ancient Egypt right now is not into detail anywhere near what I did back in sixth grade.

Today we took our quiz on Mesopotamia and I feel like I did pretty good but was unsure of one question about the name for the New Stone Age. We were required to do the section 2 assessment in our blog and here it is.
1.
delta - A broad, marshy, triangular, area of land formed by deposits of silt at the mouth of the river
Narmer - The pharaoh who united upper and lower Egypt around 3000 B.C.; sometimes identified as pharaoh Menes
pharaoh - The Egyptian god-king
theocracy - The type of government which is based on religious authority
pyramid - The immense structure that was the pharaoh's tomb
mummification - The process in which royal's and elite's bodies were preserved
hieroglyphic - The flexible writing system developed by the ancient Egyptians
papyrus - Reeds which were used to make a paper for writing in Egypt
Main Ideas
3. How did being surrounded by deserts benefit Egypt?
The desert provided good defense and protection from invaders
4. How did the Egyptians view the pharaoh?
The pharaoh was viewed as the political leader and religious leader of the people
5. Why did Egyptians mummify bodies?
The preserve the bodies for the next lie.

Today class was shortened by 15 minutes because we worked on a two hour delay bell. This made class not awful because Mr. Schick was rushing through the worksheet that he gave us. The worksheet was about Hammurabi's Code and the paper gave us scenarios in which we had to determine what the consequences were for the law that the person broke. And then we had to compare what we thought the consequence would be to the Hammurabi's Code consequence. Class was interesting today and learning about laws is kind of interesting.

Western Civ was the last class of the day and I was looking forward to the three day weekend after the two snow days we had this week. All we did was look at the powerpoint that we've been looking at all week and took some more notes. But class wasn't that bad today because my class was very talkative and I wasn't that tired. He also gave us the last 30 minutes of class to do our blog. I wrapped up my blog in about 10 minutes and that left me with 15 minutes of class left to do nothing. Not to mention Mr. Schick got a laser pointer for his smart board that apparently he's been wanting for a long time.

Today we started off by looking at our powerpoint and taking a couple more notes. We talked about Sumer which is a city state located in between the Tigris and Euphrates river. The population of Sumer increased dramatically due to the new irrigation techniques. Cities and towns were founded, some with as many as 40,000 inhabitants. Better food storage allowed for diversity in professions: priests, tradesmen, artisans, politicians, and farmers. Kings emerged, as did family dynasties and the concept of the city-state. Sumerians invented the earliest form of writing, known as cuneiform. A pantheon of Sumerian gods and goddesses emerged, with many of the deities representing the natural elements of the world. We also looked at some of the laws under Hammurabi's code and tried to see what all of them were trying to enforce. I noticed that all these laws started with an "if" statement and most were pretty brutal.

Today was very short because of the two hour delay. We took about 20 minutes getting our fully graded tests back and about another ten reviewing them. Can't say I did good on it because I didn't. But yet again its one test that I did bad on and maybe I'll study for the next one. Then we took notes on a powerpoint on the earliest civilizations and we covered about a full page of notes within two powerpoint slides. Pretty short class and that's pretty much all that happened today.

Today we started off by acknowledging the fact that Mr. Schick graded the objective part of the test and let me just say I did not do to hot. I probably shouldn't be in honors western civ because I haven't done that well on any of the tests that we have taken. I want to drop down to a non honors class but I probably won't because I don't know how it would complement with my other classes. But anyways all we did today was the same thing as yesterday but we went fourth into the pages and took more notes and most of us finished. That's all that happened today

Today class was shortened by five minutes because of the D day schedule. We engaged for the first time of the year with a textbook and I actually found it not too bad to read it and take notes in our copybook based off of it. We were assigned to read pages 26-34 and take notes but we didn't have that much time to do this. He really only expected us to take notes on the first two pages but unfortunately I skipped the first two pages and went straight to the first page in the lesson. I never really took notes on the pages that he wanted us to take notes on. But I actually enjoyed class today and felt like I took pretty good notes.

There's not much to blog about today because all we did was take the test on the Guns, Germs, and steel Test which took the class about 30 minutes total in time not leaving much of any time to do anything else. I feel pretty good about how I did on the test and I know that I got all the points on the animal listing part of the test but on the two extra credit I missed one animal and that animal was reindeer but instead I put Alpaca. My essay might have been a little short but overall I felt like my writing was fairly good. That's all that went down today.

Today was another normal day of human geo. We finished up human geo and went over some important topics before the test tomorrow. I actually have to study for this test because I need to get my grade up from the one quiz that I did not do to hot on. We then spent the last couple minutes of class randomly talking with each other. The test is gonna be 25 questions with a mixture of multiple choice and written questions. And there is gonna be an essay question asking us on Jared Diamond's theory about civilizations being affected by geographical environment and how this is affecting them grow and become more modernized. I think these people are just so used to the way that they live that they feel scared to move to something more modern and outgoing.

I had trouble uploading this blog because I was having trouble's with the wifi over the snow days but this is for Monday's western civ class. Class was shortened and we did pretty much the same thing as the last week of western civ. We continued to watch Guns, Germs, and Steel and talked more about Jared Diamond and the right answers to the pop quiz we took. I didn't do to hot on that pop quiz so hopefully these blogs and the next upcoming tests boost my grade up because my grade isn't that low of an F. This is the one class that I'm worried about not getting an A in because I have a lack of attention n this class and I'm not taking much interest in western civ so far. I hope that we start to stray away from this video and actually get into something interesting.
