Today was our test on Ancient Rome and I felt like I did decent on it and after looking at what I got I wasn't the happiest but I still have an A in the class. I got a 74 percent which means I got a 49/66 which is pretty bad if you ask me but I missed a couple class days and I don't find Rome interesting at all so this test doesn't mean anything to me. Anyways that's all that happened today

Today we focussed on our test today and me mainly did that by going over the whole powerpoint and saying how many test questions was on each of the slides. It was a pretty productive class knowing that I had missed the last couple of classes. But I have tried to study a lot because I really need to do good on this test because it will be a pretty good chunk of my grade. But there really isn'y much to blog about today considering we just went over the powerpoint for an hour and made sure that we knew what to prepare for the test tomorrow. But it is a good thing that is all matching and no written questions.

Obviously Rome had many declines such as when their rulers had died or they lost a war, but I don't really see the United States declining. Maybe it's just because I don't pay attention to politics, but for the most part I feel like our country has been stable and running well for a long time. The last thing I can really declined the U.S. was 9/11 but we were only devastated for a short amount of time until we built back up the damage that was done and bounced back to a great country. But Rome on the other hand had a lot of devastating moments that started to decline their empire. There are a lot of different viewpoints and reasoning as to why the Roman Empire fell. It could've been that the Empire was just too big. The Romans had built up so much to the point where they couldn't take care of all of it anymore and having all of this land and having this empire was a reason as to why they started to fall. Another reason is that their military power was getting weaker and weaker. Back then if you did not have a strong military you were viewed as an easy target and this is another reason why they fell. Another reason it could've fell is simply because it outgrew itself. Rome can't be the same old Rome forever and it eventually turned to something bigger and greater, The Medieval Times.

The rap and the textbook are both teaching us about the same concept, Rome. But they do it in very different ways and you will learn the information wether you study the rap or the textbook. The textbook teaches it to us in a very straightforward manner and there are some pictures to go along with it. The textbook also has all the information organized into different sections and we know where to look when we want to find a certain thing. But the rap on the other hand is very scattered with facts but if we listen to it enough it can get embedded into our heads and we can remember it very well. But I think that the textbook is just a better method to learning because it is very reliable and reading and trying to remember a song is just far more complicated. I feel like I have better success when I read straight from the textbook and process the information then when I try to remember a song.

Power and Authority - Rome began as a republic, a government in which elected officials represent the people. Eventually, absolute rulers called emperors seized power and expanded the empire.
Empire Building - At its height, the Roman Empire touched three continents - Europe, Asia, and Africa. For several centuries, Rome brought peace and prosperity to its empire before its eventual collapse
Religious and Ethical Systems - Out of Judea rose a monotheistic, or single-god, religion known as Christianity. Based on the teachings of Jesus of Nazareth, it soon spread throughout Rome and beyond.

218 BC - In the Second Punic War, Hannibal invades Italy
31 BC - Octavian defeats the forces of Antony and Cleopatra (bust of Cleopatra)
284 BC - Diocletian becomes emperor of Rome
476 AD - Western Roman Empire falls. (Roman horseman)

Today we started our studies in Rome and it wasn't as boring as I thought. We learned a lot about Rome location and a lot about the people. The one thing that took up 5 minutes was the rap about Rome that Mr. Schick made quite some time ago. It was a long song and he came up wit the rap name Chi Cago in honor of the rapper Flo Rida. It wasn't a bad song about Rome but I just simply won't look at it because I will probably prefer to look at the powerpoint that Mr. Schick provided for us. But anyways all we did today was watch the powerpoint for 40 minutes and learned a lot about Roman people, government, and beliefs.

It was our first day back from spring break and I'm not too excited. But there are a lot of interesting things going on in western civ in the next two weeks. Mr. Schick is getting some kind of surgery Thursday morning and it will take some recovery time. He has an umbilical hernia and it will take him around 2 weeks to fully recover. So over the two weeks we will have a lot fo subs coming in and out of the classroom. He said that he had a lot of planning to do and that he tried to give each of the sections enough work to give us something to do for the whole class period. So we didn't do much today because we just discussed the future for 30 minutes then did ur blogs and chatted for the last 15 minutes.

Today we took our test on classical Greece and this is by far one of my best taken tests. Reading every section of the book a couple times and reading a bunch of different quilts definitely helped a lot. This is going to be short blog because all we did was take the test and then have time to do our blogs. There were a couple questions on the test that were questionable but later I looked through the textbook to find the answers to the questions on the test that I didn't know for sure were right. But I realized that all the ones that I looked up were the answers that I chose. I honestly feel like I got a 100 on the multiple choice part of the test. I feel like I did pretty good on the essay part as well. I knew exactly what to write about and I feel like I included everything that I had to.

Today was a very interesting day. Now that everyone is wrapped up with reading the three sections we had our final review day before the test. We went over the worksheet that we filled out last class and I got all of them right. We talked about what we need to know for the test Friday and after that we started talking about the Allegory of the Cave. It's a very debatable subject and hard to understand but it's basically when someone gets used to something that isn't right and when they're brought to the truth it is hard for them to believe the truth. In the video we saw there were three men trapped in a cave and had seen nothing but their shadows. And when they are set free to see the real world they can't notice anything but the shadows and they aren't acknowledging what's casting these shadows. We are gonna have an essay question on the test about this and it's a good thing that a big part of it is opinion and it's a good thing that I know wha the general idea of it is.

Today was another day that we had to ourselves. He gave us this day because not everyone had gone through all three sections and answered the questions. I like days like this because it is relaxing and I get to learn the material any way that I want. Mid way through the class he gave us a worksheet on the second section. This section was on Alexander and the other rulers and we had to match the up the four rulers with what they did. But some of the questions were tricky because they had more than one ruler per thing. Overall I didn't find this worksheet hard and I feel like I have a firm grasp on this section because some of the questions just came natural t me as if I had been studying them for a while. Well that's all that happened today; just another day to get prepared for the test Friday

Over the weekend I did the 4th section which is pages 142-145 which is Alexander's Empire. Today in class we had a sub and we were supposed to 146-149 and answer questions 1,3,4, and 5 so that's what I'm going to do this class. This was the shortest section that we had to read and probably the least important. But you never know what type of questions Mr. Schick will sneak onto the test because half of the questions I get wrong are the questions about the little things.
1. Hellenistic- relating to the civilization, language, art, science, and literature of the Greek world from the reign of Alexander the Great to the late second century
Alexandria- an Egyptian city that became the foremost center of commerce and Hellenistic civilization
Euclid- a highly regarded Mathematician who taught in Alexandria
Archimedes- an important Hellenistic scientist who studied at Alexandria. He accurately estimated the value of pi
Colossus of Rhodes- an enormous Hellenistic statue that formerly stood near the harbor of Rhodes
3. It made it so that it became and international community so it had a rich mixture of customs and traditions.
4. The astronomers, Eratosthenes and Aristarchus, used his geometry text that we still use today.
5. They both promote having social unity.

Today we had a refresher of the pages that we read and took notes on yesterday. We started off by taking a seven question pop quiz that I got a five out of seven on and the two that I got wrong were answers that had something that meant something very similar so I don't feel bad about that. Mr. Schick went into a lot of depth with the tragedies and the comedies and even went deep into telling us some of the darker stories about Oedipus rex and even telling us test question which is that Fatal Flaw is another word for hubris. He didn't want us to read and answer questions 1, 3, 4, and 5 but I insisted on doing it tonight because I want to do good on the test next week.
1. Philip II- King of Macedonia that dreamed of taking control of Greece and then moving against Persia to seize its vast wealth. Also the father of Alexander the Great.
Macedonia- kingdom located just north of Greece that had rough terrain and a cold climate.
Alexander the Great- son of King Philip II that extended his empire across an area that would be considered many nations today.
Darius II- King of Persia that raised a huge army to defend off the Macedonians
3. King Philip II transformed the rugged peasants into a well-trained and professional armband organized his pushing troops into phalanxes.
4. Alexander continued his conquest because he was greedy and he believed that he had enough power to conquer all civilizations.
5. His three Macedonian generals fought for control for his empire. Eventually Ptolemy would become governor of Egypt, Seleucus would take most of the Persian Empire, and Antigonus I would become King of Macedonia.

Today we went over the calendar and pictured the amount of days we have left until spring break. Over the next week and a half we would be covering three lessons in our textbook and today we covered most of the first one. We learned about Democracy and Greece's Golden Age. To do this, he had us read pages 134-139 and take notes in our copybook. He also wanted us to answer questions numbers 1, 3, 4, and 5. I took all my notes in my copybook but I am supposed to record my questions in this blog so here they are.
1. direct democracy- a form of government in which the people rule directly
classical art- the standard of their values of harmony, order, balance, and proportion
tragedy- a serious drama about common themes such as love, hate, war, or betrayal
comedy- a drama that contained scenes filled with slapstick situations and crude humor
Peloponnesian War- the war between Athens and Sparta that ended up in a truce
philosophers- people who used logic and reason to investigate nature
Socrates- he believed in standards for truth and justice
Plato- a student of Socrates and wrote down Socrate's words
Aristotle- questioned the nature of the world and of human belief, thought, and knowledge
3. He increased the number of public officials who were paid salaries. This means even the poorest citizen could serve if elected or chosen by a lot.
4. Athens avoided battle on land and tried to attack by sea. Sparta would eventually attack by land and burn Athen's food supply.
5. I think some Athenians found the ideas of Socrates so disturbing because he was so much different than any other Greek teacher and His type of teaching wasn't really taught to be the way to do it back then.

Today we finished up the last three presentations in our class which were Kyle's group, Sam's group, and Patrick's group. I enjoyed watching these presentations and my favorite was Kyle's group because I thought they made a really funny but yet informing video. Sam's group was pretty cool because they came up with their own scenario and had the class vote by giving everyone white and black stones (white means yes and black means no) and then he counted them up and we voted that the workers would not be killed for killing their tyrant of a leader. And Patrick's group didn't really show us anything other than an oar but their presentation was on naval warfare so that's that. So that wraps up the Greece presentations and that probably means we're going back to learning.

We had another presentation class today and I was not expecting to present today but we had several groups that were not ready to present but besides that fact I enjoyed watching the presentations as well as presenting mine. Mr. Schick wanted to keep my model and I said yes because I wasn't going to do anything with it. Overall I feel very good about our project and I feel happy about the fact that Mr. Schick wanted to keep our model because it makes me think that we did good on it. That's all that happened today.

Today was only a 45 minute class but was also a very fun class. Our projects were due in today and we got ours in safely as well as everyone else's. we were supposed to get in 5 projects today according to the board but we only squeezed in one because of all the setup time and people had to go grab their stuff. But the one project that we watched was by Olivia's group and it was very entertaining and funny. It was a good project but the only problem was that I noticed that Mr Schick's stopwatch had went to 15 minutes and he wanted the maximum time to go to 10 minutes. and because we only had one presentation today, me and my partner might have to present Tuesday because we won't have class on Monday. I only want to watch other people's projects and not present ours but I don't really have a choice. One of the best classes with Mr. Schick this year

We were supposed to be working on our projects because Mr Schick wasn't here today, but my partner didn't come to school today so that's not good. I'm gonna have to tell him what we have to do tonight. All I have to do is the creative aspect of the project and he has to do the paper part of the project.Hopefully he gets it done because its due tomorrow and hopefully he comes to school tomorrow. So basically all I did during this class period was research the Battle of Thermopylae to make sure I know the information to present but I might make flash cards just in case I forget what to say.

Today wasn't a learning day but it was rather another day of project prep but we couldn't do much, We are doing majority of our project at home because we really can't bring in anything until the day the project is due which is now Thursday which is clutch because I forgot to get something from the store Sunday. So yeah we just kind of talked this class and discussed what we need to present. Not much went on in class today.

Today was test day and this test determines wether or not I get a B or a C in this class. I took the test and I felt pretty good as I was taking it but there were like 4 that I was questionable on and after the test when we were going over it I realized that I had gotten couple wrong. But at least this test isn't like the others when if you got two wrong then you'd be down to a B. I could've gotten 4 wrong on this test and gotten an A which is hopefully what I got. I also have to worry about this project that I am hoping to work on this week because I want to start off my quarter 4 western civ grade with an A and this is a 200 point project so its not a joke.

Today we finished the whole Greek powerpoint. These last few slides were all on Ancient Greek philosophers and we had a lot of random conversations that I wasn't really listening to but other than that we also went through the whole powerpoint and discussed what would be on our test tomorrow. I feel as if I will do very well on the test and hopefully it will bring my grade up a bunch of points because I need to get a B in this class. I am currently studying very hard for it and will continue to until the test is here.

Today we started off by loading up the powerpoint and that lasted the rest of the class and then he ave us the final minutes of class to get our blog wrapped up. We talked a lot about the Greek warfare today and their navy. We mentioned the Battle of Thermopylae which is what my ancient Greece project is on. We also talked how they looked at battle and the reason they dress red; they dress red to hide their battle wounds and blood. They also drive battle ram like ships that carry 170 people on one. We also talked about some of the Gods and Goddesses and what each of them was responsible of. The main God is Zeus and he was the ruler of all the main parts of their society. We talked about the interesting parts of the Greece today.

Today we thought about when we should work on out projects. We decided that we should work on them today and me and my partner thought that our original project was too complicated so we decided to change it. Our original plan was to do warfare and symbols but now we thought it would be way easier to do the Battle of Thermopylae because we found it easier to do a 3D model instead of cardboard shields. I like this idea better because I have done these type of projects before and I have gotten good grades on them. So hopefully we get this done in time because I would really appreciate getting my c up to a b.

Today we started off by talking about the big Western Civ project on Ancient Greece. I did not want this project to happen because now it creates a lot of stress because I also have a lot of english assignments to worry about. we were allowed to work with someone or multiple people which helped me feel better because I am not a fan of presenting in front of a whole class. I decided to work with Colin and we started discussing what we would have our topic be. We looked around the room and saw two ancient Greek shields and immediately took interest. We decided to take part in this idea and we found this picture that showed most of the symbols of the city states in Greece. We would find cardboard and spray paint these shields to make them look like the cities shields. We would then research each city state and tell the class about each of them.

Class today was exactly like last class besides the fact that I was really tired so it made it way more painful. I don't know what else to blog about, I could put my notes in here but I find it pointless to put notes in my blog because I already took notes in my copybook and I would much rather refer to them. But yet again all we did was take notes on the Greece Powerpoint and talked more about Greek Rulers and Greek government.

Today was another note taking day in western civ and all of the slides that we went over I had already written down from the previous class when he let us take notes. So not much went on today, we had a lot of conversation and had some interesting topics and it involved a lot of us talking instead of Mr. Schick. We talked about our government today compared to what it was like back then, we also talked about the different laws and also talked a little bit about Homer. That's pretty much all that we did today.

We didn't really do anything in this full 55 minute class period of western civilization. But today we started off by looking at the ancient Greece powerpoint and after we went through a couple of slides, Mr. Schick got distracted by some fellow students in the back of the classroom. He got a little mad because all teachers get mad when other students are talking. He then shut off the powerpoint and told us to take our own notes in the textbook on pages 127-133. But I decided to stick to the powerpoint because I find it to be more reliable as to what I will find on the test. Another note taking class and I am going to have to study for the ancient Greece test if I want to get my grade up to a B.

Not much to blog about today because we were short on time and we only did one thing in class. We continued our discussion on Ancient Greece and we went further into the powerpoint getting to the little details and more important topics on Greece. We talked about the Trojan War and about famous Tree figures that are still talked about today. The Trojan War is still a mystery and there is still no solid proof that it happened. We also talked about Homer and wether he was a myth or not. Homer wrote the Iliad and the Odyssey which are stories on the Trojan War but the fact they could both be myths makes it a mystery.

Today we had a normal 55 minute class of western civ which feels like the first in a long time. We didn't do a variety of things, rather we just take some notes on a powerpoint then take some more notes in the book. I don't like taking notes out of the book because I take notes on what he teaches us because thats the stuff that will be on the test. That's why I stuck to the powerpoint but some people switched over to the book for some reason. Hopefully this isn't a big unit on Greece (even though it's 45 slide powerpoint) because I am not a huge fan on learning about Ancient Greece. I would rather learn more about Ancient Egypt or something else because I know that the last time I learned about Greece I didn't not enjoy it. But who knows, maybe this Greece unit won't be as bad.

Today our class felt very short because we were running on a two hour delay bell. We took our test on ancient Egypt and I feel like I actually got an A on this one because I have had past experiences on Ancient Egypt and I looked over the powerpoint and worksheet multiple times. So in other words, I am trying to get my grade up in this class because I don't want it ruin my gpa. Then for the rest of the class he wanted us to get the textbook and take notes on ancient Greece and this is what I'm guessing our next quiz will be on. Not to much went on in class today.

Today we spent almost 40 minutes focusing on an Ancient Egyptian Powerpoint that had around 6 slides but was packed with information. The main topics that we learned about were these: The Nile and the "Two Lands", Gods, Humans, and Everlasting Life, The writing of the Words of God, Calendars and Sailboats, and the last topic was Pyramids and Temples. The one topic that interested me this class was the pyramids and temples because it is really cool to think about the fact that even 5,000 years ago, people were building massive, sturdy buildings that can somewhat compare to today. I also enjoy learning about the mummification process because how did they know that the mummification would've worked so well.

Today we used all 55 of our minutes going over a single worksheet which sounds boring but it really wasn't that bad. He gave us around thirty minutes to do it and the rest of the class we used to go over it and discuss plans for the ancient Egyptians quiz. The vocabulary questions on the front of the worksheet were easy but time consuming. I found most of the definition of the words in the glossary but there were a couple that were not in the book that I had to look up. I tried to do the back but I could only do the last couple of questions because I could not find the answers in the book or online. These 55 minutes actually flew by while I also learned some things about ancient Egypt that I never had before. Back in sixth grade we did a huge project on ancient Egypt and it helped me a lot. But what we're learning about ancient Egypt right now is not into detail anywhere near what I did back in sixth grade.

Today we took our quiz on Mesopotamia and I feel like I did pretty good but was unsure of one question about the name for the New Stone Age. We were required to do the section 2 assessment in our blog and here it is.
1.
delta - A broad, marshy, triangular, area of land formed by deposits of silt at the mouth of the river
Narmer - The pharaoh who united upper and lower Egypt around 3000 B.C.; sometimes identified as pharaoh Menes
pharaoh - The Egyptian god-king
theocracy - The type of government which is based on religious authority
pyramid - The immense structure that was the pharaoh's tomb
mummification - The process in which royal's and elite's bodies were preserved
hieroglyphic - The flexible writing system developed by the ancient Egyptians
papyrus - Reeds which were used to make a paper for writing in Egypt
Main Ideas
3. How did being surrounded by deserts benefit Egypt?
The desert provided good defense and protection from invaders
4. How did the Egyptians view the pharaoh?
The pharaoh was viewed as the political leader and religious leader of the people
5. Why did Egyptians mummify bodies?
The preserve the bodies for the next lie.

Today class was shortened by 15 minutes because we worked on a two hour delay bell. This made class not awful because Mr. Schick was rushing through the worksheet that he gave us. The worksheet was about Hammurabi's Code and the paper gave us scenarios in which we had to determine what the consequences were for the law that the person broke. And then we had to compare what we thought the consequence would be to the Hammurabi's Code consequence. Class was interesting today and learning about laws is kind of interesting.

Western Civ was the last class of the day and I was looking forward to the three day weekend after the two snow days we had this week. All we did was look at the powerpoint that we've been looking at all week and took some more notes. But class wasn't that bad today because my class was very talkative and I wasn't that tired. He also gave us the last 30 minutes of class to do our blog. I wrapped up my blog in about 10 minutes and that left me with 15 minutes of class left to do nothing. Not to mention Mr. Schick got a laser pointer for his smart board that apparently he's been wanting for a long time.

Today we started off by looking at our powerpoint and taking a couple more notes. We talked about Sumer which is a city state located in between the Tigris and Euphrates river. The population of Sumer increased dramatically due to the new irrigation techniques. Cities and towns were founded, some with as many as 40,000 inhabitants. Better food storage allowed for diversity in professions: priests, tradesmen, artisans, politicians, and farmers. Kings emerged, as did family dynasties and the concept of the city-state. Sumerians invented the earliest form of writing, known as cuneiform. A pantheon of Sumerian gods and goddesses emerged, with many of the deities representing the natural elements of the world. We also looked at some of the laws under Hammurabi's code and tried to see what all of them were trying to enforce. I noticed that all these laws started with an "if" statement and most were pretty brutal.

Today was very short because of the two hour delay. We took about 20 minutes getting our fully graded tests back and about another ten reviewing them. Can't say I did good on it because I didn't. But yet again its one test that I did bad on and maybe I'll study for the next one. Then we took notes on a powerpoint on the earliest civilizations and we covered about a full page of notes within two powerpoint slides. Pretty short class and that's pretty much all that happened today.

Then we took notes on a powerpoint on the earliest civilizations and we covered about a full page of notes within two powerpoint slides. Pretty short class and that's pretty much all that happened today.

Today we started off by acknowledging the fact that Mr. Schick graded the objective part of the test and let me just say I did not do to hot. I probably shouldn't be in honors western civ because I haven't done that well on any of the tests that we have taken. I want to drop down to a non honors class but I probably won't because I don't know how it would complement with my other classes. But anyways all we did today was the same thing as yesterday but we went fourth into the pages and took more notes and most of us finished. That's all that happened today

Today class was shortened by five minutes because of the D day schedule. We engaged for the first time of the year with a textbook and I actually found it not too bad to read it and take notes in our copybook based off of it. We were assigned to read pages 26-34 and take notes but we didn't have that much time to do this. He really only expected us to take notes on the first two pages but unfortunately I skipped the first two pages and went straight to the first page in the lesson. I never really took notes on the pages that he wanted us to take notes on. But I actually enjoyed class today and felt like I took pretty good notes.

There's not much to blog about today because all we did was take the test on the Guns, Germs, and steel Test which took the class about 30 minutes total in time not leaving much of any time to do anything else. I feel pretty good about how I did on the test and I know that I got all the points on the animal listing part of the test but on the two extra credit I missed one animal and that animal was reindeer but instead I put Alpaca. My essay might have been a little short but overall I felt like my writing was fairly good. That's all that went down today.

Today was another normal day of human geo. We finished up human geo and went over some important topics before the test tomorrow. I actually have to study for this test because I need to get my grade up from the one quiz that I did not do to hot on. We then spent the last couple minutes of class randomly talking with each other. The test is gonna be 25 questions with a mixture of multiple choice and written questions. And there is gonna be an essay question asking us on Jared Diamond's theory about civilizations being affected by geographical environment and how this is affecting them grow and become more modernized. I think these people are just so used to the way that they live that they feel scared to move to something more modern and outgoing.

I had trouble uploading this blog because I was having trouble's with the wifi over the snow days but this is for Monday's western civ class. Class was shortened and we did pretty much the same thing as the last week of western civ. We continued to watch Guns, Germs, and Steel and talked more about Jared Diamond and the right answers to the pop quiz we took. I didn't do to hot on that pop quiz so hopefully these blogs and the next upcoming tests boost my grade up because my grade isn't that low of an F. This is the one class that I'm worried about not getting an A in because I have a lack of attention n this class and I'm not taking much interest in western civ so far. I hope that we start to stray away from this video and actually get into something interesting.

Today was another day just like yesterday that consisted of note taking and video watching. We started off the video where we left off yesterday and talked a little bit more about sago and that some of my classmates wanted to try which I don't know why they would. Then we started to talk more about the animals that were domesticated workers over the weight of 100 pounds. These animals were goats, sheep, pigs, cows, horses, donkeys, Bactrian camels, Arabian camels, water buffalo, llamas, reindeer, yaks, mittens, and Bali cattle. Learning about animals appeals to me because it's interesting to find out about what they do and how they have changed from their time to our time. Then out of no where we had a imitation of Mr. Schick trying to be some kind of animal that doesn't get involved with humans and he went crazy kicking his desk and almost blowing out his computer which almost took away our ability to watch the video.

Today started off with a very scary pop quiz that I was not expecting because we had just started yesterday and all we did was watch a video and take notes. No one really had learned the material yet. And today all we did was watch the video that we watched yesterday and took more notes. I always have trouble watching these long videos because the just get too boring and when it's dark I have the temptation to doze off uncontrollably. We talked a lot about sago which is food that is grown from a tree in the swamp. The sago tree can produce up to 70 pounds of sago per tree, but it is low in protein and can not be stored for long.

Today was our introduction to western civ along with the introduction with two new classmates (one fo them wasn't here today). Apparently Mr. Schick had plans for today but apparently the class was a bit too rowdy and out fo control that he made us watch an hour long vide and take notes on it. This semester is going to be a lot lie last semester besides the fact that we're just simply learning a new subject, that's all. Hopefully I enjoy this class a lot more than human geo as it sounds more interesting to me. But the video today was not what I has in mind when the topic western civ comes to my head. I was thinking of like the wild west and like those times but instead it's more so native americans and Mesopotamia. The people back then tend to survive on a more strict diet and farming supply than we do today. They dress totally differently and live a lot more naturally. I am looking forward to learning more about our history and I hope that I take interest in it.

Today we started off by Sydney getting yelled at by Mr. Schick because she wouldn't sit down and then he called her back up to hand out our essays. I got my essay and received an 85 on it and I'm not that upset because I just wanted to get the essays done and most of the stuff I said on them were opinion based. We then got some time to review over our tests and see what comments Mr. Schick had to say about our essays and I noticed some grammar mistakes on mine along with some areas that could've used more facts to go along with some of my opinions.

Today was shortened by 5 minutes because it was a D day but class still felt the same. Today we basically talked about our classwork because Mr. Schick wasn't in school yesterday and this is when we wrote paragraphs on each on each of the 5 most populated religions. We also talked about what was gonna be on our religion test which is coming up. The problem is though we are supposed to get snow Thursday night into Friday which could get us a day off school but we don't have class Thursday and there's no way we are taking the test tomorrow. But I think he sorted something out with taking it next week if we have off Friday. But anyways today was basically review and I think I'm gonna do fairly well on this test knowing that I did a religions project last year on even more than these five religions.

Christianity is the biggest religion in the world with around 2.2 billion people following. The people that believe in Christianity are known as Christians. Most Christians live in Europe, the Americas, and Southern Africa. Their denominations are the Catholic Church, Eastern Orthodox Church, and Protestants (Lutherans, Methodists, Baptists, Anglicans, Presbyterians, Episcopalians, many more). The founder of Christianity is Jesus Christ and their Holy Book is known as the Bible. They believe that Jesus is both human and divine and the Son of God. He led a virtuous life; he was crucified, died, buried, and resurrected; He ascended into heaven where he reigns with God the Father. The Pope is the head of the Catholic Church and local authorities are known as priests.

The second most populated religion is Islam. There are around 1.5 billion people following this religion and most of them live in Indonesia, Middle East, and North Africa. We call the followers of this faith Muslims. Their main denominations are consisted of them being 75-90% Sunnis and 10-20% Shiites. Their founder is known as Muhammed and he lived from around 570-632. Their holy book is called the Qur'an which is also called Koran. The faith is a monotheistic faith and is also Abrahamic. They have five pillars of faith and these are called testimony, prayer, alms-giving, fasting and pilgrimage. Muslims see their purpose in life as serving and submitting to Allah (Muslim God), and observing Islamic law. They also have the Hajj which is the place where all the muslims go to. The Hajj is the Muslim pilgrimage to Mecca that takes place in the last month of the year, and that all Muslims are expected to make at least once during their lifetime. Hajj means heading to a place for the sake of visiting.
The fourth most populated religion is known as Hinduism. There are around 1.1 billion people following the Hindu faith and we call these followers Hindus. Most of them live in India but some also live in Nepal. Their Holy Book is called the Vedas and this book is about their eternal truths revealed to ancient sages which is composed in verse form. These verses are meant to be sung and easily memorized. Their is no distinct founder of the Hindu faith. Hinduism is a series of intellectual or philosophical points of view, rather than a rigid, strict set of beliefs. It is probably the oldest extant religion, although Hinduism is less a religion than a way of life, or a faith.
The fourth most populated religion is Buddhism. There are around somewhere between 500 million and 1.5 billion followers of this faith. We call these believers Buddhists. They mostly live in Southeast Asia, China, Nepal, and Japan. There also 1.2 million Buddhists living in the U.S. Their denominations are Tibetan, Zen, Theravada, and Amidist. The founder os Buddhism is Siddhartha Gautama. They have four noble truths and these are: 1. There is suffering 2. Attachment to desire is the origin of suffering 3. There is a cessation of suffering 4. The Eightfold Path will lead to the cessation of suffering. There is also an Eightfold Path and these eight things are Right view, Right intention, Right speech, Right action, Right livelihood, Right effort, Right mindfulness, Right dedication.
The fifth and final most populated religion is Judaism. There are between 14 and 18 millions of them in the world. We call them Jews. Most of them live in Israel but some live in the U.S. and others are scattered in European countries. The founder of Judaism is Abraham. Their Holy Book is knownas the Torah which is also the first five books of the Old Testament: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy. Their belief is an ethical monotheism which means God is one, and concerned with the actions of humankind. They also have the Ten Commandments which is also a part of the Christianity beliefs. There are also the 13 principles of faith. The Jews also celebrate Hanukkah which is a time around Christmas where they light a candle each day and give presents. The Judaism religion is very similar to the Christianity religion.

Today in human geo we started off by taking out our packets on religion but I didn't have one because I wasn't at school the day that we got those packets. But basically we skimmed through the packet space by page and highlighted all the important facts that we would need to know for the test. But halfway through this, someone brought up the fact of our exam grades for the multiple choice part of the exam. Mr. Schick didn't have the exams with him but he did have the grades put in online so he could call us out one at a time and tell us our grades. The lowest grade was a 78 but thankfully it wasn't me but I got an 82 which wasn't much better. We then just finished off the last 10 minutes of class by finishing off the packet. Pretty usual day of human geography.

Today classes were run on a community bell because we had an hour and ten minutes assembly on something about Native American culture and tradition. I'm glad this is so because it makes days go by way faster and classes to be more fun. Anyways in human geo today we looked back at our blogs from yesterday and discussed them and what answers we got. The first question was about Mecca and different writing styles, the second question was on indulgences and Martin Luther, and the third question was about the Hajj. I had no troubles with these questions and found them fairly easy to answer and it was good because he gave us all of the class period to finish the blogs yesterday in class so I didn't have to do it at home. That's pretty much all that happened in human geo today.

1. There are four basic Vedic texts in use by Hindus and these are called the Rig-Veda, the Sama-Veda, the Yajur-Veda, and the Atharva-Veda. The Rig-Veda is about “Knowledge of the Hymns of Praise”, for recitation. The Sama-Veda is about “Knowledge of the Melodies”, for chanting. The Yajur-Veda is about “Knowledge of the Sacrificial formulas”, for liturgy. And the Atharva Veda is about “Knowledge of the Magic formulas”, named after a kind of group of priests. The Rig-Veda has 1017 hymns, the Sama-Veda has 1549 hymns, the Yajur-Veda has 1875 hymns, and the Atharva-Veda has 730 hymns.
2. The practice of indulgences is used in the Catholic Church where someone would ask for an indulgence from the pope or religious leader to grant them less time in purgatory and a better chance for them to get to heaven. Martin Luther objected to indulgences because he felt that it was wrong to promise souls freedom from purgatory based on a simple monetary contribution, and he also felt that the pope did not have the right to grant a pardon from God. My research led me mainly to Wikipedia and the answers that automatically come up at the top of google when you ask it a question.
3. The Hajj is the Muslim pilgrimage to Mecca that takes place in the last month of the year, and that all Muslims are expected to make at least once during their lifetime. Hajj means heading to a place for the sake of visiting. The rites of Hajj, which according to Islam go back to the time of Prophet Abraham who re-built Kaaba after it had been first built by Prophet Adam, are performed over five or six days, beginning on the eighth and ending on the thirteenth day of Dhu al-Hijjah, the last month of the Islamic calendar. The state of being physically and financially capable of performing the Hajj is called istita'ah, and a Muslim who fulfils this condition is called a mustati
. The Hajj is a demonstration of the solidarity of the Muslim people, and their submission to God (Allah).

Their geographic locations are Europe, the Americas, southern Africa. The denominations are the Catholic Church, Eastern Orthodox Church, Protestants (Lutherans, Methodists, Baptists, anglicans, Presbyterians, Episcopalians, and many more).
